HOTEL ROOM SAFETY FOR CHILDREN
Review Hotel Fire Escape procedures and locate exits.
Check all blinds for loose or dangling cords.
Ask the hotel if they offer a child-proofing kit.
Move all furniture away from any windows.
Review safety concerns with children regarding jumping from
bed to bed, never standing on chairs on the balconies.
Put all soaps, shampoos, plastic bags, matches and toilet-
ries out of reach.
Remove dry cleaning bags or place them out of reach.
Put any matches that may be in the room immediately out of
reach of children.
Make sure you check the hot water for the bath to ensure
that the water is not too hot - also cool down the tap
before children go into the tub and instruct them not to
play with the taps.
If children are afraid of the dark or used to a small night
light - take it with you and use it in the room.
If you are drinking alcohol in your room or there is alcohol
in the mini-fridge, make sure it is out of reach of young
children including empty glasses - alcoholic beverages can
cause serious illness or death if ingested by a small child.
Don't let children wander the hotel unsupervised.
Warn children of the dangers of automatic security gates and
keep children clear of security gates.
Children should not play on luggage carts.
If traveling with young children, place suitcases on the
floor. Suitcase racks can be pulled over by young children
and cause injury.
Avoid using fireplaces in hotel rooms. If you do use it,
supervise children closely and teach them never to go near
it just in case the fireplace has been used recently and is
still hot.
