Good Morning,
Again, I'd like to thank you all for your continuing prayers
for my mom. My sister and I took my mom to the doctor today
for her checkup and the doctor was pleased with her progress,
even though her vision is far from back. She is, however,
starting to see a little and everytime she can see something,
no matter how little, we all get excited...
It looks like I will be here for a while and I'm not even
making plans to go back home. There's no way I will leave
until I'm 100% sure my mom is OK and able to take care of
herself. The doctor said it could be another week, two,or
three weeks. There's just no way of knowing and since
everyone at home is assuring me that everything at home
is fine, I'm concentrating on my mom's health...
I will admit, I'm extremely tired. Not from the cooking or
cleaning I'm doing, but I think more from the emotional
stress of seeing my mom in this condition and watching
the clock constantly so I don't miss one prescription
eye drop that go in every hour. There are now a total of
six different eye drops, two eye ointments, and an antibiotic,
plus her regular medications...
So far so good. I haven't missed one dose...
Now if I could remember to take my own thyroid pill regularly...

Many of my special readers, or people you may know are going
through a rough time right now with cancer. First, my thoughts
and prayers are with you all. Since chemotherapy and radiation
are given to people with cancer and one of the side effects
is hair loss or total balding, I'd like to dedicate today's
and tomorrow's column to those who might need some tips to
try to help the transition go a little smoother...
After being diagnosed and discussing the treatments with your
doctor, you might want to consider having your hair cut shorter
in stages, or at once. This can minimize some of the hair loss
by not having the weight of longer hair pull it out of the
scalp prematurely. Some people prefer shaving their heads
completely once they start losing their hair. The choice is
yours....
Use gentle hair products on the hair and scalp while going
through treatment such as baby shampoo to help prevent
dryness of the scalp that will occur...
When brushing your hair, use a soft bristled brush, such as
a baby brush because your scalp will probably be tender...
At night, wearing a hairnet, turban, or soft cap will collect
the hair that will fall out during the night...
Use an un-perfumed moisturizer on the scalp if dryness becomes
a problem. Natural oils such as almond or Olive oil are always
great for the dryness...

Try to stay away from excessive heat from blow-dryers or
hot rollers because this can make your hair break from
being too dry...
Try not to pull your hair back in tight bands or clips,
barrettes, or rubber bands. This will add to breakage...
Sleeping in rollers isn't a good idea...
If you have lost hair under your arms, don't use a perfumed
deodorant. Use baby powder instead...
If you decide to not cover your head and go natural, use a
sunscreen on the head at all times...
Do not use hair coloring or get a perm for at least 6 months
after your treatments have been completed...
