She really hasn't left the spotlight.

BIRTH DATE: December 10, 1961, Hollywood, California

BIRTH NAME: Virenia Gwendolyn Peeples

CLAIM TO FAME: Nia is quite talented. She's a singer, dancer
and actress. While she's been in a few different TV show, she's
probably best know, at least to people over 35 for her role as
Nicole Chapman on the TV series 'Fame.' She also portrayed Texas
Ranger Sydney Cooke in the CBS hit series 'Walker, Texas Ranger'

FAMILY LIFE: Lauro Chartrand (1997 - 2004) (divorced) 1 child
Howard Hewett (1989 - 1993) (divorced) 1 child
Guy Ecker (1984 - 1986) (divorced)

Children: Christopher (b. 1990) and Sienna Noel (b. 1998).

INFO: Got her break when she accompanied a friend to a
rehearsal one day and was spotted by the producers, who cast
her in the play "Music Shop". This led to guest appearances
in TV shows "Hardcastle and McCormick" and "T.J. Hooker".

TRIVIA: Nia attended UCLA on a music scholarship, during which
time she performed as Liberace's opening act in Las Vegas on

She was once engaged to her "Fame" co-star, actor Carlo Imperato.

Mother Elizabeth Peeples is of Filipino, German and Spanish
descent. Father Robert is of Italian, Scottish, Irish and Native
American Heritage.

Mother is a flamenco dancer, father is an artist.

Her hobbies include hiking, tandem surfing, rollerblading and
skiing. She also does a lot of charity work.

Often gets mistaken for Valerie Bertinelli

Her one husband Howard Hewitt was a singer in the group

WHERE IS SHE NOW: Nia really never slowed down after 'Fame'. She
quickly launched her music career with some success. Then she
was back on TV in "Walker, Texas Ranger.'

In 2004 she co-hosted the family-makeover series "Pulled Over"
on the Style Network.

In addition to this, she does a bunch of charity work. In 2005
she attended and was a mentor at the 2nd annual HatcH audiovisual
festival in Bozeman, Montana. HatcH is a film and arts festival
whose mission is to provide mentorship, education, inspiration,
and recognition to the next generation of creative innovators.

Also in 2005 she played Detective Hahana on the new Showtime
series "Barbershop".

The big news for Nia is she just recently (May of 2007) began
playing Karen Taylor on "The Young and the Restless."

There's also a possibility in Nia's future. A spy at ABC tells
me that Nia may be considered for a coveted role in 'Dancing
With The Stars'.

I thought about that and wouldn't that be a bit of a cheat
because she also is a dancer?
