Truex speeding penalty 'a little harsh'
From Press Release

MOORESVILLE, N.C. - Martin Truex Jr. said getting penalized
10 positions for speeding on pit road despite not having
any power at the end of Saturday's Nextel Cup race at
Phoenix was "a little harsh."

Truex's No. 1 Chevrolet ran out of fuel two laps from the
finish of the Subway Fresh 500 and he coasted to a stop in
his pits as the white flag waved.

NASCAR informed the team Monday that Truex was guilty of
exceeding the speed limit on his way into the pits.

"It's just frustrating to race hard all day in the front
and end up getting penalized for something I couldn't help
on pit road," Truex said. "When the engine is off, there is
no [tachometer to read].

"I honestly tried not to speed and thought I had the car
down to pit road speed when I was coming down. I'd like to
see how fast were going, that's for sure."

After running in the top 10 for much of the event, Truex
fell back to 23rd during a green-flag stop but was able to
make his way back to 12th near the end of the race.

Crew chief Kevin Manion cautioned Truex about his fuel
situation -- and the driver attempted to do what he could
to make it to the finish without stopping.

"I did what I could to help, but we're racing out there and
every position counts," Truex said. "I just wish we could
have earned another top 10 and not end up getting docked
all those positions for speeding on pit road there at the

"I think the penalty was a little harsh. It's disappointing
to run around the top 10 all day and not get that finish.
In my eyes, I feel we finished 12th and didn't get the
finish we deserved.

"The guys were great on pit road and it would have been a
nice finish for their hard work. But, [NASCAR is] the ones
who said we were speeding and there isn't much you can do
about it except go on to the next race."

Veteran driver Fedewa to spot for Bowyer
From Press Release

WELCOME, N.C. - Veteran driver Tim Fedewa has joined
Richard Childress Racing as the spotter for Clint Bowyer's
Nextel Cup and Busch Series efforts.

Fedewa has four wins in 333 Busch Series starts. His most-
recent win came in May 2000 when the Holt, Mich., native
won from the pole at New Hampshire International Speedway.

"It's pretty exciting to be part of a championship
organization like RCR," said Fedewa. "Up until just a few
weeks ago, I was spotting some Busch races on Saturdays
but I knew I wanted to work on Sundays, too.

"[Mike] Dillon saw me on the spotter's stand and asked me
who I was spotting for and I told him who it was, but that
it was only on a temporary basis. He asked me if would
consider spotting for Clint on both days. It was too good
of an offer to turn down. We've got a couple races under
our belts already and it seems to be working out pretty

With Fedewa on the radio, Bowyer finished second at
Nashville and fifth last weekend in the Subway Fresh 500
at Phoenix.

"We're excited to have Tim on board at RCR," explained Mike
Dillon, Director Team Operations for RCR. "Tim has a lot of
experience behind the wheel which makes him the perfect fit
as Clint's spotter.

"We've been making a lot of moves to strengthen the entire
organization and this is another step in that direction.
Tim is very calm and does a great job. A calm and informed
voice on the radio goes a long way toward keeping the
driver composed in the car."

Bump won't cost Busch any extra punishment
By David Newton, NASCAR.COM

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Kyle Busch will not receive further
punishment from NASCAR for bumping Casey Mears' car
during a red-flag situation during Saturday's Nextel
Cup race at Phoenix International Raceway.

Busch was involved in an accident with Mears on lap 99.
He got the worst of the deal, spinning out and receiving
major damage to his car.

Before going to the garage, Busch drove his car into
the side of Mears' Dodge, which was parked while NASCAR
cleaned up damage from another accident involving multiple

That earned Busch a trip to the NASCAR hauler and a five-
lap penalty when he returned. NASCAR officials considered
further punishment on Monday.

Busch finished 36th in the race and fell two spots to
ninth in the points standings.
