DA Says No State Charges in Chris Benoit Probe for Now,
Fed Probe Ongoing

ATLANTA (AP) -- The state prosecutor in the Chris Benoit
investigation said Monday he has no plans to file criminal
charges in the case, but whether the federal government
does is an open question. "From our standpoint, I have no
reason to believe there will be any criminal charges at
the current time," Fayette County District Attorney Scott
Ballard told The Associated Press. "What the federal
government is going to do, it will be up to them."

A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's office declined to say
Monday if any charges were planned.

Federal drug agents have taken over the probe into whether
the pro wrestler's personal physician, Dr. Phil Astin,
improperly prescribed testosterone and other drugs to
Benoit before he killed his wife and son and committed
suicide in his suburban Atlanta home last month. Ballard
and sheriff's officials are overseeing the death
investigation.

Astin's attorney, Manny Arora, said Monday there could be
federal charges filed against Astin in connection with the
drug probe.

"I wouldn't be shocked if there's some charges that come
out of this," Arora told AP, adding that he had spoken with
federal authorities and that his client will turn himself
in if he is asked to do so.

Authorities have said Benoit strangled his wife and 7-year-
old son, placing Bibles next to their bodies, before
hanging himself on the cable of a weight-machine in his
home.

Authorities have conducted two raids since last week at
Astin's west Georgia office.

Among other things, investigators were looking for Benoit's
medical records to see whether he had been prescribed
steroids and, if so, whether that prescription was
appropriate, according to a law enforcement official
speaking on condition of anonymity because records in the
case remain sealed.

Astin prescribed testosterone for Benoit, a longtime
friend, in the past but has not said what, if any,
medications he prescribed when Benoit visited his office
June 22, the day authorities believe Benoit killed his
wife.

Meanwhile, toxicology tests on Benoit's body have not yet
been completed, Ballard said.

Anabolic steroids were found in Benoit's home, leading
officials to wonder whether the drugs played a role in
the killings. Some experts believe steroids can cause
paranoia, depression and violent outbursts known as
"roid rage."

Ballard said finding a motive in the case remains elusive.

"I think it will always be undetermined as to 'Why?'"
Ballard said. "I think it's because there can't be any
satisfactory reason why you kill a 7-year-old."

HHH Pushing For Randy Orton To Defeat John Cena
Story By: Richard Gray
Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

It appears as if Triple H is having second thoughts on
his proposed upcoming return feud with Randy Orton. The
original plan was for The Game to return in a main event
feud with his former Evolution member and work a match
against him at the end of the summer at WWE's SummerSlam
pay-per-view. However, Triple H is now pushing for Orton
to get a run with the WWE title.

Triple H's reasoning for not wanting to return in a feud
with Orton is because he feels that Orton is the top heel
character on RAW and it would kill his momentum if he
should come back and beat The Legend Killer. Furthermore,
Triple H thinks that John Cena would benefit more from l
osing the title as he has been getting a lot of resentment
boos from fans that are tired of him as champion. From a
business aspect, a program with John Cena chasing Randy
Orton for the title would probably be more profitable.

The feeling now is that Triple H's feud with Randy Orton
will be delayed for one of the other four major pay-per-
views whether it be Survivor Series, Royal Rumble, or
WrestleMania.

WWE's plan at the moment is for them to move on in their
storylines and make no mention of Chris Benoit in anyway.
WWE are distancing themselves from Chris Benoit in every
way possible.

The WWE website are reporting that WWE SmackDown tag-team
champion Domino suffered a broken nose and a possible
broken orbital socket on Tuesday’s WWE SmackDown taping in
the tag-team match with Deuce against Cryme Tyme.

                      Reader's Forum

Is it even entertainment anymore? I'm still trying to come
to terms with the whole Chris Benoit tragedy. I have been
a fan, and watched wrestling for almost 40 years. I
remember how it used to be. Now it seems to be all about
shock value, and ratings. I can't even comprehend how many
of my favorites are dead now. So many, over the last few
years. I have heard some wrestlers speak about it, and I've
seen documentaries on television, about the lifestyle the
wrestlers have to lead, and the way they are treated. I get
the impression, that the wrestlers are a commodity. They
are used, abused, and when they are used up... they are
thrown away. I have been a fan for a long time, but if this
is how it really is, maybe we should all just quit watching
it. This is only my opinion. Everyone has the right to
agree, or disagree with it.

- Don

On the night of the tragedy, all of WWE expressed sympathy
for Chris and his family. However, the next nights comments
by Mr. McMahon were totally uncalled for. Yes, it was a
horrendous situation. I'm sure there were circumstances
that led to it which none of us will ever know. I don't
understand how Mr. McMahon and WWE can think they are so
much above reproach for this situation. They found anabolic
steroids in the home. Can ANYONE except medical personnel
say whether this was one of the causes? I didn't know Mr.
McMahon had a PhD. I have watched WWE for as long as it
has been running but because of this situation where Mr.
McMahon believes he is God and already knows that Chris
Benoit murdered his family without any extenuating
circumstances, I will NEVER watch another WWE program. I
am only one viewer expressing my feelings but I'm sure
there are many more that feel the same.

- Sad and Disillusioned Former Fan of WWE.

I am hoping that this will appear in the next newsletter. I
know that people have been griping about Vince Mc Mahon and
his limo blowing up scheme he did. I must say though, I
have to give the man credit where credit is due. Monday
night when they had that tribute to Benoit I did not expect
him to appear. I thought he was going to be that cold and
not show up just because of story line. He went and broke
character and story line to do what was right. As much as
Vince can be an ass and inhuman at times, right is right,
even to Vinny Mac. As far as Benoit goes, I was shocked
Monday night, and saddened. Then I read the news the next
day, and was shocked even further to find out this man that
everyone was praising the night before was responsible for
the deaths of his wife and his 7 year old little boy. I
cannot even fathom how he could do such a thing, but I must
say, I am not so sure how I feel about him after this. I
am very angered (which is putting is mildly) about what he
did. It is a shame this tragedy has happened. I feel for
the families that were left behind to deal with this
horror. My heart goes out to them. Thank you for reading
this.
