          LIVING GREEN - Wednesday, July 16, 2008
-----------------------------------------------------------

Good morning,

A couple days ago we discussed the peak oil phenomenon and
the necessity for large scale alternatives to fossil fuel
energy production.

Solar power, wind power, hydro-electric power, nuclear power
and biomass power all have their drawbacks and limitations.
But there is one man and one company in Philadelphia, PA who
thinks they can significantly contribute to energy production
using garbage power.

Scroll down to read more about what might be a crucial tech-
nology in helping us take an important step toward energy
independence.

Thanks for reading,

CEO Brian Appel and Changing World Technologies (CWT) have
created a system that they say can convert municipal garbage,
old tires, plastic bottles, turkey offal, even oil-refinery
residues into high-quality oil, clean-burning gas, and
purified minerals that can be used as fuels, fertilizers,
or specialty chemicals.

"This system will accept almost any carbon-based feedstock,"
says Appel. "If a 175-pound man fell into one end, he would
come out the other end as 38 pounds of oil, 7 pounds of gas,
and 7 pounds of minerals, as well as 123 pounds of sterilized
water."

Sound too good to be true? That's exactly what I thought
the first time I read the article, but it turns out CWT has
recently completed its first industrial-size installation
in Missouri.

This kind of technology would revolutionize energy production.
Perhaps not overnight, but considering that agricultural waste
alone makes up approximately 50 percent of the total yearly
waste generation (6 billion tons) in the U.S., CWT's Thermal
Conversion Process could potentially turn that 6 billion tons
of agricultural waste into 4 billion barrels of oil.
