We were at a birthday party last week when my niece, Jordan,
lost one of her baby teeth. She held it up and asked her mom,
"What will the tooth fairy give me for this?"
Her mom answered that she'd just have to wait and see.
Henry Wallers, an elderly friend of the family took out his
false teeth and held them up and said through a toothless
grin, "I wonder what the tooth fairy will give me for all
Jordan's eyes grew big, then she told her mom they had to go
right away. When asked why, she answered, "I have to go to

When asked why she wanted to go to bed so early she explained,
"Because if Mr. Jordan goes to bed first the tooth fairy may
not have any money left for my tooth!"

WEBMASTER TIP - Hiding Source Code
Note: In code examples I add a period after each left arrow
bracket so the code can be viewed in all e-mail programs.
If you copy and paste, be sure to remove the periods or it
won't work.
Question: Is there a way to make it so visitors can't view
the source code of my web pages?
Simon Says: There is no simple way. The browser has to read
the source code to display the page, and since the source
code is viewable through the browser software, it can't be
There are some things you can do to make it more difficult.
There are JavaScripts that disable the right-click context
menu that most people use to view the source code. The problem
there is the View Source is still available from the browser
menu bar.
You could use a no-right-click JavaScript as described above,
and build the site in frames so when a visitor chooses View
Source from the menu bar they would only see the frame source
file. The biggest drawback to this method is that search
engines don't index framed sites well, and some not at all.
You could create pages in Flash, but that has its drawbacks
too, including making your pages unavailable in some browsers.
You can learn more about Flash here:

You can also use a software program called HTML Source
Protector to "scramble" your source code and disable some
browser features. This makes it difficult to impossible to
read the source code in some browsers (mainly for Internet
Explorer users, but that's about 90% of the surfing population),
but other browsers aren't so easily defeated. You can learn
more about the HTML Code Protector here:

Another "trick" I've used is to start your source code about
5 screens down, leaving a lot of blank space at the top. Then,
at the very top, use something like the fake statement below
so it's the only text visible when someone views your source

Warning! Source code protected by Bulldog Switcher. Bulldog
Switcher hides your source code from prying eyes. Certified
web designers may inquire about licensing Bulldog from Bulldog
Inc., 8479 Tech Drive, Gelfhorn, WI 59991 Ph. 715-899-2222
Licensing priced by quantity, as low as $1,000.00 per domain
with the purchase of a 12 domain license.
Don't worry about using that address and phone number,
neither exists in the real world. Anyway, most people would
be discouraged from contacting this fake company by the
certification required or the price. That will probably fool
a few folks, mainly newbies, but all anyone has to do is to
scroll down to see the source code.
Those are your options. None are foolproof, but some
protection is better than no protection if you're concerned
about protecting your content and coding.

SURFIN' THE WEB - The Divine Reality

You can read some strange things on the web, very strange.
The Divine Reality isn't what it sounds like, or is it?

I like things that make me think. You'll never grow far if
you don't spend time thinking most every day. Some people
think they are thinking when they are merely entertaining
reruns and daydreams. New stimulus creates new thoughts.
New thoughts lead to expanded awareness. Expanded awareness
leads to places you could never go otherwise, both in
thought and in physicality.

The Divine Reality is a bit of a long read, and perhaps a
little confusing at times for many folks, but it leads you
on nicely and will lead you down new avenues of thought --
and that's what this kind of stuff is supposed to do.

Don't let your brain explode.

COMPUTER TIPS - Easy File Size Information
Do you ever need to know the file size of a directory and its
contents or a single file like an image?
A quick and easy way to find the size of a directory (folder),
including the files and folders inside it, is to press ALT+ENTER
with the folder highlighted.
For example, to find out how much space your web site directory
1) Open Windows Explorer.
2) Left-click your web site folder in the left pane to highlight
3) Press ALT+ENTER (or right-click and choose Properties).
Windows will report the total folder size. If you keep a copy
of your web site on your computer in its own folder (and you
should) this is a great way to see how much disk space it really
takes up. Most people pay for a lot more disk space with their
web host than they really need. Knowing how much space you really
need can save you money.

Until next week, remember these words of Buddha: Believe
nothing just because a so-called wise person said it. Believe
nothing just because a belief is generally held. Believe
nothing just because it is said in ancient books. Believe
nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin.
Believe nothing just because someone else believes it. Believe
only what you yourself test and judge to be true.
Have an interesting day, Simon
