- The Oddball Wall: All In Fun
- Computer Tip: Find Lost Files

We were at a relative's party and got very lucky. My wife and
I drove separate cars because she needed to leave early. A
HUGE tree that was waterlogged from the rain gave out, the
core was rotten, and it fell with a thunderous crash. A very
large branch landed right in between our two cars. One or both
could have been hit, but the worst we got it was a few leaves
on them.

Then when my wife left she back into my car!

Again, no damage. It pays to be good, it pays to be lucky,
and sometimes it pays to be darn good and lucky.

WEBMASTER TIP - Border Blues

Note: In code examples I add a period after each left arrow
bracket so the code can be viewed in all e-mail programs. If
you copy and paste, be sure to remove the periods or it won't

Question: All I want to do is place a small stripe of color
at the top and bottom, and on both sides of my web page. It
seems unnecessarily complicated to use tables just have a
splash of color. Is there another way?

Simon Says: Yep, easy as pie too, and it works in all modern
browsers. Just add a border to the BODY using CSS. To do
that, just place the following code in the HEAD section of
your page:

<.style type="text/css">
body {border: solid blue 12px;}

All you have to do is change the color and width and you'll
have a nice color border on your page. Incidentally, the
border remains even when you scroll the page.

SURFIN' THE WEB - Rock Wisdom

You would think with all the genius and the brilliance of
these times, we might find a higher purpose and a better
use of mind.

That's a line from the Jackson Browne song, Say It Isn't

RockWisdom is a site where you can find lines of "wisdom"
in the lyrics of rock songs. There are a few pretty good
points to ponder, but apparently the wisdom in rock songs
doesn't run very deep because most of the quoted lyrics
aren't all that profound.

Still in all, it's a fun site to browse for a while.

AutoScreenRecorder is an application you can use capture
desktop activity and save the recording as AVI video or
automatically convert it to Flash. It can capture a segment
of your screen or all of it.

AutoScreenRecorder is fairly easy to use, but it doesn't
provide a way to edit or annotate the captured frames -- it's
purely a "what you record is what you get" application.

There's a free version or a paid "pro" version that has more
features. One use might be to create visual tutorials.

Note: I do not provide support for the featured software.
Contact the software vendor for support. No warranty is
made or implied as to the usefulness or appropriateness of
featured software.

COMPUTER TIPS - Find Lost Files

If you've downloaded something from the net and forgotten
where you saved it, even if you've forgotten the file name,
your computer's Find (Win98) or Search (WinXP) function can
still find it for you.

Rather than looking for a specific file, use the "Date
Modified" tab within the time frame you downloaded it. For
example, if you download it within the last week, search
between today's date and one week ago. You'll find it and
any other files downloaded or modified within that time

With a little luck you'll either recognize the file name or
perhaps you'll be familiar with the other files modified so
you can find it by process of elimination.

informational and is true to the best of my knowledge.

Your computer, your choice.

Until next week, remember these words of Jackson Browne:
Forget what life used to be, you are what you choose to be.
It's whatever it is you see that life will become Have an
interesting day, Simon
