"Death borders upon our birth, and our cradle stands in the
grave. Our birth is nothing but our death begun." Bishop Hall

Welcome to another edition of Dead End.

Death has been in abundance this past week. We say goodbye to
Darrent Williams, corner back for the Denver Broncos, whose
life was tragically cut short on New Years Day. He was only 24
years old. Also this week in history we remember in 1919, the
death of our 26th United States President Theodore Roosevelt.

The hanging of Saddam Hussein ended the life of one of the
most brutal tyrants in recent history. Sadam oppressed Iraq
for more than 30 years, unleashing devastating regional
wars and reducing his once promising, oil-rich nation to
a claustrophobic police state. His own conviction that he was
destined by God to rule Iraq forever was such that he refused
to accept that he would be overthrown in April 2003, even as
American tanks penetrated the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. After
eluding capture for eight months, but when put on trial for

Art historian and conservationist Craig Hugh Smyth has died at
the age of 91 in Englewood, N.J., of a heart attack. Smyth led
one of the very first art conservation projects in the United
States when he was the director of the Institute of Fine Arts
at New York University in 1960, The New York Times reported.
Before that he worked for the Navy recovering stolen art. At
the end of World War II Smyth was made director of the Munich
Central Collecting Point, set up by the Allies for returning
art and cultural relics confiscated by the Nazis.

Denver police said the shooting death of Broncos cornerback
Darrent Williams may have been related to an altercation at
a nightclub. In the 2005 NFL Draft, Williams was selected by
the Denver Broncos in the second round (56th overall). He
recorded his first career interception on November 13, 2005
versus the Oakland Raiders. Williams, died when shots were
fired into a limousine carrying the cornerback and several
other passengers. Police said they were investigating whether
the shooting was related to a confrontation at a combination
New Year's Eve and birthday party for Nuggets player Kenyon
Martin at The Shelter nightclub.
