Singer Freddy Fender died at his home with his family in
Texas after battling a string of illnesses including lung
cancer. He was 69. Freddy had been getting treatment in
Oklahoma for the disease, but was transferred to a hospital
in San Antonio, Texas last week because of a blood infection.
He was discharged on Thursday but passed away on Saturday.
Fender's turbulent medical history also included drug and
alcohol abuse, diabetes and hepatitis C. He received a kidney
from his daughter in 2002 and a liver transplant in 2004.

Born Baldemar Huerta, his music career included the hit
country ballad 'Before The NExt Teardrop Falls' in 1975,
which propelled him to fame. Extremely proud of his Mexican-
American heritage, Fender won a Grammy of Best Latin Pop
Album in 2002 for La Musica De Baldemar Huerta. He also
shared in two Grammys: with the Texas Tornados. Aside from
music he appeared in the 1987 movie 'The Milagro Beanfield

I'm Walking Here....

Here's an item (the Telescopic Walking Stick) that I never
really thought I would use. But I decided to try it out
when we went for a walk along a trail a few weeks ago.

It was fun to use.... yes I said fun. When we would come up
to a stream, I would poke at things in it. I also used it
when I wanted to venture off the beaten path, just to make
sure that there were no snakes in front of me. Believe it or
not, it made the walk more enjoyable. Check it out and the
unbelievable low price.

Normal Price: $19.99

Whether you're an avid hiker or just looking for a little
extra help walking around, the Telescopic Walking Stick is
just what you need. It's fully adjustable to fit your height
and the spring loaded shaft helps reduce strain on your wrists,
back, knees, legs and feet. With a built in compass it will get
you through hard rocky terrain or just across the street.

This week in history...

In 1990, CBS founder William S. Paley died at age 89. And
rumba king Xavier Cugat died at 90.

In 1992, Israeli tanks rolled into Lebanon as air force
jets staged renewed raids in an effort to crush Muslim
fundamentalist guerrillas.

In 1998, Hurricane Mitch, one of the strongest Atlantic
storms ever recorded, began its four-day siege of Central
America, causing at least 10,000 deaths.

In 2003, as many as 40 civilians and U.S. soldiers were
killed in a flurry of terrorist bombings in Baghdad. Among
the targets was the 3-story headquarters of the
International Committee of the Red Cross.

In 2004, Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat was
reported to be dying. A Palestinian minister said doctors
were frantically trying to save the 75-year-old Mideast
leader's life.
