        Children’s “Powerpuff Girls” Necklaces
        Recalled Due to Lead Poisoning Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Com-
mission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today 
announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer 
product. Consumers should stop using recalled products 
immediately unless otherwise instructed. 

Name of Product: Children’s Powerpuff Girls necklaces

Importer: Rhode Island Novelty, of Cumberland, R.I.

Hazard: The recalled jewelry contains high levels of lead. 
Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause 
adverse health effects.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The recalled necklaces are multi-colored 
metal pendants that hang from a black cord. The pendants 
are in the shape of the head of one of three “Powerpuff 
Girls” cartoon characters. The packaging consists of 
purple cardboard with the three Powerpuff Girls cartoon 
characters and the words “CARTOON NETWORK” and “THE 
POWERPUFF GIRLS” printed on both sides.

Sold at: Carnivals, amusement parks, family entertain-
ment centers, small discount stores nationwide and at 
www.rinovelty.com,from March 2003 through November 2006 
for about $1.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take this jewelry 
away from children. Consumers should return the recalled 
jewelry to the store where purchased for a replacement 
or contact Rhode Island Novelty for information on how 
to receive a replacement.

   Recalls Lemonade Jars For Lead Exposure Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Com-
mission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today 
announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer 
product. Consumers should stop using recalled products 
immediately unless otherwise instructed. 

Name of Product: Gemco® Lemonade Jars

Importer: Lifetime Brands Inc., of Westbury, N.Y.

Hazard: The metal spigot contains lead and is in direct 
contact with the contents of the lemonade jar. Lemonade 
and other beverages can cause the lead to leach from 
the spigot. Long-term exposure to lead in children may 
be associated with behavioral problems, learning 
disabilities, hearing problems and growth retardation.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The recalled product is the Gemco® Lemonade 
Jar. The product is a six-sided glass jar with a round 
glass lid and a metal spigot at the bottom of the jar. 
The jar has a yellow and green label on the front that 
reads “Lemonade Jar” with a picture of two lemons. There 
is a sticker on the bottom that reads “imported by Gemco, 
Div. Lifetime Hoan Corp. Westbury, N.Y. 11590 Made in 
China.”

Sold at: Retailers nationwide from April 2004 through 
November 2006 for about $16.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should stop using these lemonade jars 
immediately and return the spigot pieces to Lifetime 
Brands, Inc. for a full refund. Consumers should wash 
hands after handling the spigot.

        Recalls Bell Rattles for Choking Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Com-
mission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today
announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer 
product. Consumers should stop using recalled products 
immediately unless otherwise instructed. 

Name of Product: BRIO Bell Rattles

Distributor: K’NEX Industries Inc., of Hatfield, Pa.

Manufacturer: BRIO AB, of Sweden

Hazard: The small bell positioned between the wood slats 
can break and allow access to small parts. This poses a 
choking hazard to young children.

Incidents/Injuries: No injuries or incidents have been 
reported.

Description: This recall involves wooden rattles with 
six-multi-colored slats used to connect the two, red 
round ends. A metal bell is contained within the slats. 
The rattles measure 2 1/2-inches in diameter by 2 1/2-
inches in height. The name BRIO appears on one of the 
wooden sides.

Sold by: Mail order, Internet and specialty toy stores 
nationwide from February 2005 through April 2006 for 
about $5.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the toys away 
from children and contact K’NEX for a free replacement
toy.
