Davis signs three-year deal with Bears

Wide receiver Rashied Davis signed a three-year contract with 
the Chicago Bears on Wednesday after accepting the team's one-
year tender offer as a restricted free agent last week.
Signed out of the Arena Football League in 2005, Davis caught 
39 passes for 468 yards and two touchdowns the past two seasons 
after spending his first year in Chicago as a reserve cornerback 
and return man. Davis has 1,172 yards on 55 kickoff returns 
and 31 yards on five punt returns in his career. He ranked 
fifth on the team last season with 11 special teams tackles.

Patriots sign TE Pollard, P Player, DL Kenny Smith

The New England Patriots signed three free agents Wednesday: 
tight end Marcus Pollard, punter Scott Player and defensive 
lineman Kenny Smith. Pollard has been in the league for 13 
seasons with Indianapolis, Detroit and Seattle. He has 349 
catches for 4,280 yards and 40 touchdowns in 191 career games. 
The 36-year-old led Seattle's tight ends last season with 28 
receptions for 273 yards and two touchdowns. Player punted in 
three games last season for Cleveland before being released 
on Oct. 8. He sent nine seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. 
The 38-year-old kicker has 727 punts for 31,345 yards.
Smith has 69 career tackles in 30 games. The 30-year-old has
not played since 2003 when he was with New Orleans.

Rams to practice with Titans

No matter where the Rams hold training camp, they have agreed 
to hold three days of joint practices with the Tennessee Titans. 
It's believed to be a two-year agreement, with the Rams practicing 
at Tennessee this year. The Rams are narrowing their choices of 
training camp sites. Concordia Wisconsin, Wisconsin-Whitewater, 
and Western Illinois University are believed to be the three 

Panthers DE Mike Rucker to retire

Carolina Panthers defensive end Mike Rucker will retire after 
nine seasons, finishing second on the team's all-time tackles 
list. Rucker will announce his retirement at news conference at 
Bank of America Stadium later Tuesday, a team official said.
In February, Rucker decided he'd play for at least one more 
season. But the 33-year-old had second thoughts, and the 
Panthers decided not to re-sign him. Rucker was Carolina's 
second-round pick in 1999 and quickly became one of the 
anchors of the defensive line. He ranks second in team history 
with 553 tackles and 55 1/2 sacks. Rucker returned from a 
serious knee injury last season and finished with 57 tackles 
and three sacks.

NFL reinstates LB Thurman

Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman has been reinstated 
by the NFL after being suspended for the last two seasons.
The Bengals said Monday they were informed by commissioner Roger 
Goodell that Thurman is eligible to play. He had been suspended 
because of violations of the NFL substance abuse policy.
He was cleared in January by the NFL to resume working out with 
the Bengals pending word on his status. A second-round draft 
pick from Georgia in 2005, Thurman started 15 games at middle 
linebacker, led the team in tackles and tied the team rookie 
record with five interceptions.

Cardinals sign Stewart

The Arizona Cardinals signed Matt Stewart, a free-agent linebacker 
who missed last season because of a shoulder injury, to a one-year 
contract Thursday. Financial terms weren't disclosed. Stewart 
spent the last three years with the Cleveland Browns after four 
seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. He has appeared in 93 games, 
61 as a starter, with 355 tackles, 197 solos. He has eight sacks, 
an interception and fumble recoveries.

Lions sign Orlovsky, Peterman and Moore

The Detroit Lions re-signed quarterback Dan Orlovsky, guard 
Stephen Peterman and defensive lineman Langston Moore to one-year 
contracts Tuesday. Terms of the deals for the restricted free 
agents were not disclosed. Orlovsky spent last season as the 
team's third quarterback after injuring his toe in the second 
preseason game at Cleveland. He is expected to compete with 
Drew Stanton for the backup quarterback spot next season.
The 6-foot-4, 323-pound Peterman returns for a third season 
with the Lions. He started 13 games in 2007 at right guard.
Moore, 6-foot-1, 305 pounds, played in all 16 games last 
season for Detroit. He had 37 tackles and two sacks.
