                  LOOKING GOOD - July 17, 2008
"Tips To Help You Look & Feel Your Best"

Good Morning,

Well, the allergies that I thought turned into a cold has
taken another "turn". I have pneumonia. Wonderful huh? I had
to finally break down and go to the doctor when the cough I
developed kept me from sleeping through the night for the
last week and my ribs felt like someone had been punching me
the last few days...

On another note, I have some news. Nah, it's not bad news and
for some, it will be good news. Many of you have been with me
for quite a few years. Some have been with me for the eight
years I have been doing Looking Good, and some have been with
me before that during my "Sybil Sez" days. (For those who don't
know what that was, it was an advice column of sorts, but with
a "Jamie twist")...

Looking Good has been a beauty column that I injected many things
into, from personal stories to personal opinions, to rants, and
of course, the infamous, "disclaimer section". While the column
has grown and grown, the popularity of it ended up being because
of the opening column and not the beauty tips. Sure, from time
to time, we'd all get a laugh out of a few who crabbed about the
openings and that only gave me more material for my openings...

The joke around the office is how on earth I could generate hate
mail from a beauty column, to which I always respond, "tis a gift".

So...In the next week or so, the powers that be will be splitting
Looking Good into two columns, both written by yours truly. Looking
Good will be a strictly beauty tip/advice column and a new column,
called Anything Goes, will be debuting. As you can tell from the
title, me and my personalities can have a field day talking about
anything and interacting with readers, and responding to any and
everything my little 'ole heart desires. Fair warning, if you have
a tendency to be easily offended, it's probably not for you, if you
don't care for advice that needs to be given and not what wants to
be heard, probably not for you. If you hate hearing about Great
Danes, probably not for you. If you want a totally PC column, again,
probably not for you...

However...If you want to hear someone say things you wish you could
say, if you want to ask a question that you need to hear rather than
want to hear, and if you want to be a part of a new format that will
hopefully grow into something pretty darn different, join me and
help me create and improve it along the way. The new format will
allow me to post pictures and of course that means my pups will
be featured occasionally and as much as I have kept my "kisser"
away from all of you all these years, it looks like my face is
going to be associated with the new column. UGH!

I'll keep you posted as to when this is going to happen. I do know
it's not going to be weeks away, more like days...

To those who always hated the opening...Merry Christmas!!!

To those who will feel the need to send me some parting shot hate
emails, please do, I'll just take them with me and have some fun with
it. Just keep in mind, I'm still writing Looking Good and you wouldn't
want me to send out a tip that turns your hair green now would ya?

There are products, or strips that are used for blackheads.
They work well, but are expensive. Here's a recipe you can
make at home that will do the same thing as the expensive
store ones...Here's what you will need...

1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin (Such as Knox)
1 1/2 tablespoon milk or cream

Mix the two ingredients in a microwave-safe bowl and cook on
high for 10-15 seconds. Remove from the microwave and cool
a little. Apply a "strip" of the mixture over your nose or
areas where blackheads are a problem. Leave on until dry and
peel off...

Another great recipe that you can make a peel off mask can
be made with gelatin and juices...

1 packet unflavored gelatin
12 cup fruit juice

Combine the ingredients in a microwave-safe bowl or an oven-safe
dish if you want to use the oven. Heat the ingredients until all
the gelatin has dissolved. Cool the mixture in the refrigerator
until almost set, (about 20-30 minutes) Spread a thin layer onto
your face and let dry. Peel off and rinse with cool water...

If your skin is normal to dry, use apple, pear, peach or strawberry

If your skin is oily, use tomato, grapefruit, lemon or white grape
