Troy-Bilt String Trimmer Sold at Lowe’s
Recalled for Laceration Hazard
The following product safety recall was voluntarily con-
ducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers
should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise
instructed.
Name of Product: Troy-Bilt 4-Cycle Gasoline String Trimmers
Importer: MTD Southwest Inc., of Tempe, Ariz.
Hazard: The blade that trims the excess string of these
weed trimmers can detach from the plastic shield covering
the trimmer head. The blade can be thrown outward, hitting
the user or bystander, resulting in a laceration.
Incidents/Injuries: None reported
Description and Models: The recalled handheld string
trimmer is powered by a 4-cycle gasoline engine. The
trimmer functions to cut grass or weeds through the use
of a spinning yellow trimmer head containing a spool of
orange filament line. Model numbers TB425CS and TB525CS
and “Troy-Bilt” are printed on the body of the muffler
housing.
Sold at: Lowe’s stores nationwide from January 2006
through March 2006 for about $170.
Manufactured In: Mexico
Remedy: Consumers should stop using the trimmers
immediately and contact Troy-Bilt for a free repair.
Lowe’s will mail free repair kits with instruction to
owners of registered equipment directly.

Recalls Gas Controls
Installed in Commercial Cooking Appliances
for Fire Hazard
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Com-
mission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today
announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer
product. Consumers should stop using recalled products
immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Robertshaw FS Flame Switches and FM
Automatic Safety Valves (installed in commercial cooking
appliances)
Manufacturer: Robertshaw Controls Co., of West Plains,
Mo.
Hazard: These controls are designed to prevent gas from
flowing when the pilot light is out. The recalled controls
can remain on after the pilot light is extinguished. If
this happens, gas can continue to flow to the main burner
of the appliance, which poses a risk of a gas explosion
and fire.
Incidents/Injuries: Robertshaw Controls Co. has received
one report of a gas ignition incident, which resulted in
two minor injuries.
Description: The FS Flame Switches and FM Automatic Safety
Valves being recalled are installed on natural and liquid
propane (LP) gas commercial cooking equipment, such as
ranges, pasta cookers, deep fat fryers or griddles. The
recalled FS Flame Switches were installed on the following
commercial cooking equipment brands: Keating (of Chicago),
PMI Food Equipment Group, Vulcan, Southbend, Blodgett,
Toastmaster, and Wolf Range. The recalled FM Automatic
Safety Valves were installed on the following commercial
cooking equipment brands: Bari (Restaurant and Pizzeria),
Southbend, and Blodgett. The model and/or serial numbers
can be found on the cooking appliance identification plate
located on the appliance. For a list of appliances with
recalled switches and valves, visit www.robertshaw.com.
Sold by: Original equipment manufacturers and food service
equipment dealers to commercial food service providers
(such as restaurants) nationwide from August 2005 through
June 2006 for the FS Flame Switches and from April 2006
through June 2006 for FM Automatic Valves. Consumers who
had cooking equipment installed or serviced before August
2005 are not affected.

Remedy: Consumers who believe they could have recalled
safety valves on their cooking appliances should contact
Robertshaw Controls Co. who will arrange for a free
replacement, if necessary. If you smell gas near the
appliance or in the building, immediately leave the area
and call your gas company or a certified gas technician
to investigate the cause.

FDA issues hydrogen peroxide warning
WASHINGTON, -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is
warning against purchasing or using high-strength hydrogen
peroxide products. The FDA said its warning includes a pro-
duct marketed as "35 Percent Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide."
Officials said such products can cause serious harm or death
when ingested. The federal agency recommends consumers cur-
rently using high-strength hydrogen peroxide stop immediately
and consult their healthcare providers. FDA officials said
they are also working to stop companies selling high-strength
hydrogen peroxide from making illegal medical claims about
their products. Such claims are illegal because the products
do not have FDA approval and are, therefore, being sold
illegally for medical indications without any proven clinical
value, the agency said. As part of its efforts, the FDA said
it issued warnings last week to two companies illegally sell-
ing "35 percent hydrogen peroxide" products on Web sites for
the treatment of AIDS, cancers, emphysema and other serious
and life-threatening diseases. "No one has presented any
evidence that hydrogen peroxide taken internally has any
medical value," said Dr. Steven Galson, director of the
FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.
