Make The Most Of Your Vacation - From Coast to Coast!
Greetings Getaway Lover,
Now That the weather will be getting colder, it's time
to start thinking about heading South. So here we go...
off to Miami....
The territory from Palm Beach south to Boca Raton defines
the northern portion of the Gold Coast. North of Palm
Beach you'll uncover the comparatively undeveloped
Treasure Coast -- liberally sprinkled with coastal gems
-- where towns and wide open spaces along the road await
your discovery.
Altogether, there's a delightful disparity, from Palm
Beach, pulsing fast with plenty of old-money wealth, to
low-key Hutchinson Island, Manalapan, and Briny Breezes.
Seductive as the beach scene interspersed with eclectic
dining options can be, you should also take advantage of
flourishing commitments to historic preservation and the
arts as town after town yields intriguing museums,
galleries, theaters, and gardens.
Happy Trails,
Jan

Guaranteed To Improve the Look & Feel of Your Skin...
At A Price Guaranteed To Save You Money...
NEUTROGENA PORE REFINING CREAM
Store Price: $15.99
OUR PRICE: $5.99 or Two for $9.98
Neutrogena Pore Refining Cream is a daily moisturizer
clinically proven to visibly reduce the appearance of pores
for smooth, even-looking skin. This product uses a break-
through formula with a patented liposome delivery system
and effective combination of Retinol and Alpha-Hydroxy
Acid:
- Retinol, the purest form of Vitamin A, works deep within
the skin's surface to visibly reduce the appearance and
size of pores and refine skin texture.
- Alpha-Hydroxy Acid eliminates dull surface skin that can
make skin look rough and uneven.
- Non-greasy formula builds moisture levels for softer,
smoother skin.
Grab a tube or two of Neutrogena's breakthrough cream.
You won't find a better price.
NEUTROGENA PORE REFINING CREAM

--DESTINATION:
With Palm Beach proper representing only 1% of Palm Beach
County's land, remaining territory is given over to West
Palm and other classic Florida coastal towns, along with --
to the west -- citrus farms, the Arthur R. Marshall-
Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, and Lake Okeechobee,
a bass-fishing hot spot and Florida's largest lake. Well
worth exploring is the Treasure Coast territory, covering
northernmost Palm Beach County, plus Martin, St. Lucie,
and Indian River counties.
Despite a growing number of malls and beachfront condo-
miniums, much of the Treasure Coast's shoreline remains
blissfully undeveloped. Along the coast, the broad tidal
lagoon called the Indian River separates barrier islands
from the mainland. Inland there's cattle ranching in
tracts of pine and palmetto scrub, along with sugar and
citrus production. Shrimp farming utilizes techniques for
acclimatizing shrimp from saltwater -- land near seawater
is costly -- to fresh water, all the better to serve
demand from restaurants popping up all over the region.

--WHERE TO SLEEP:
Boca Raton Resort & Club
$140 to Over $220, Boca Raton
Addison Mizner built the Mediterranean-style Cloister Inn
here in 1926, and additions over time have created this
sparkling, sprawling resort with a beach accessible by
shuttle. There are recreational activities here and many
lodging options: traditional Cloister rooms are small but
warmly decorated; accommodations in the 27-story Tower are
more spacious; Beach Club rooms are light, airy, and
contemporary; golf villas are large and attractive. In
addition to a redesigned golf course, there's a two-story
golf clubhouse, and the deluxe Tennis & Fitness Center.

Colony Hotel & Cabana Club
$80 to $220, Delray Beach
In the heart of downtown Delray, this lovely and charming
building underwent an exterior renovation that luckily
did not do away with stables in the back, which date back
to 1926 when the hotel was built. Today it's listed on
Delray's local Register of Historic Places and maintains
an air of the 1920s with its Mediterranean-revival
architecture. The Cabana Club is a separate property on
the ocean about a mile away, with a private beach, club,
and heated saltwater pool. A convivial bar and live music
on weekend nights make the lobby area a great place to
wind down. Fine shops selling leather goods, body products,
and stationery fill the lower-level storefronts.
www.thecolonyhotel.com. 70 rooms. In-room: dial-up. In-
hotel: bar, pool, beachfront. AE, DC, MC, V. Continental

microwave, refrigerator, and wet bar; deluxe suites also
include dishwasher and stove. A heated pool has a tropical

--WHERE TO DINE:
11 Maple Street
Continental, $20 to $30, Hutchinson Island
With a mere 16 tables, this spot is as good as it gets
on the Treasure Coast, with a menu that changes nightly.
Soft recorded jazz and friendly staff satisfy, along with
food served in ample portions. Although the food is
progressive, the place is filled with antiques and many
vintage collectibles. Appetizers run from panfried conch
and crispy calamari to spinach salad, and entrées include
pan-seared rainbow trout, wood-grilled venison with onion
potato hash, and beef tenderloin with white truffle and
chive butter. Desserts such as a white-chocolate custard
with blackberry sauce are seductive, too. Reservations
essential. MC, V. Closed Mon. and Tues. No lunch.
Address: 3224 Maple Ave., Hutchinson Island, FL, USA
Phone: 772/334-7714
Baha Grill
American, $15 to $30, Hutchinson Island
Replacing the former Scalawags restaurant, but in a
slightly different locale (the main dining room is now
on the first floor), this spot serves breakfast, lunch,
and dinner daily, though from a more limited menu than
before. The food is basically the same -- assorted soups,
salads, and entrées consistent with most Marriott hotels.
Standouts include a prime-rib buffet on Friday night and
the all-you-can-eat Wednesday-evening seafood extravaganza
with jumbo shrimp, Alaskan crab legs, clams on the half
shell, marinated salmon, and fresh catch. The decor is
also standard for a Marriott dining room -- a tasteful
assemblage of wood accents, floral patterns and subtle
hues. AE, D, DC, MC, V.
Address: Marriott Beach Resort, 555 N.E. Ocean Blvd.,
Hutchinson Island, FL, USA
Phone: 772/225-6818
Benny's on the Beach
American, Under $10, Lake Worth
Perched on the Lake Worth Pier (and nearly wiped out in
Hurricanes France and Jeanne), Benny's has diner-style
food that's cheap and nothing fancy, but the spectacular
view of the sun (or moon) glistening on the water and
the waves crashing directly below is what dining here is
all about. Reservations and credit cards are only
permitted at dinner. MC, V. No dinner.
Address: 10 Ocean Ave., Lake Worth, FL, USA
Phone: 561/582-9001
