Kicker Scobee returns to action for Jaguars
Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee was active for the first time in
more than two months Sunday, replacing John Carney against the
San Diego Chargers. Carney was inactive. Scobee injured his
right (kicking) quadriceps in warmups before the season opener
and missed the next eight games. He had two setbacks during his
rehabilitation, prompting the Jaguars to be cautious with his
return. Defensive end Bobby McCray was inactive for the first
time this season for Jacksonville. McCray opened the year as a
starter, but has just seven tackles and no sacks in nine games.
He had 10 sacks last season and signed a one-year tender worth
$1.85 million. The Chargers, as expected, were without
defensive end Luis Castillo (ankle) and center Nick Hardwick
(foot).
Patriots Kevin Faulk incurs head injury against Bills
New England running back Kevin Faulk sustained a head injury
after catching a 10-yard pass Sunday and the team said his
return to the Patriots game with Buffalo was doubtful. The
injury occurred midway in the second quarter after Faulk
caught a pass from Tom Brady and was hit by Buffalo's Donte
Whitner at the Bills 11-yard line. He sat on the ground, then
walked off the field and sat on the bench. Faulk is the
Patriots' third-down back. He was third on the team in rushing
entering the game and fourth in receiving with 25 catches.

Eagles QB McNabb sprains ankle
Donovan McNabb gave the Philadelphia Eagles another mid-November
scare, going out in the second quarter with a sprained right
ankle Sunday. McNabb was injured in the second quarter of the
Eagles' 17-7 victory against the winless Miami Dolphins. He came
out for the second half in his uniform. Despite a strong game
from backup A.J. Feeley, Eagles coach Andy Reid is sticking with
his starter, who threw two interceptions in limited action against
the Dolphins. "If Donovan's healthy, he's the quarterback," Reid
said. McNabb's injury comes nearly a full year after his season
ended with a torn knee ligament. X-rays were negative Sunday,
and he stood on the sideline for the second half. McNabb played
a full game after breaking the same ankle in November 2002. He
missed the rest of that regular season, the first of three times
he went down for the season in mid-November. McNabb also had a
bandage on his throwing hand at the postgame press conference
and said he jammed his thumb on a different play. "I'm going
to make sure I'm right to get back out there," he said.
Giants LB Kiwanuka breaks leg
The New York Giants' 16-10 win over Detroit came with a big
price: linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka broke his left leg and
running back Brandon Jacobs was sidelined with a hamstring
injury. Giants coach Tom Coughlin said Kiwanuka might be out
for the season. "It's obviously a big loss for us," Coughlin
said. Kiwanuka was hurt when teammate Osi Umenyiora rolled
into him while making a tackle on the second play of the game.
0He was helped off the field, keeping his left foot off the
ground, and was later taken away on a cart. X-rays revealed
Kiwanuka broke his fibula. Late in the third quarter, Jacobs
limped off the field while trying to keep weight off his left
leg and did not return.
