... Pacman, Broncos, Deuce, Lions and More...

Pacman won't apply for reinstatement to NFL until he's traded
Tennessee Titans cornerback Pacman Jones said on the Michael
Irvin radio show Tuesday that he will not apply for reinstatement
to the NFL until a trade is completed. It was believed that
Jones, who has been suspended since last April for violations
of the NFL conduct policy, would apply for reinstatement Tuesday.
"I'm hoping it will be done this week, but that's just agent
talk," Jones said on Irvin's show of reports that his agents
believe a deal can be completed. "We'll see how it goes and I'll
be tuning in, and I'm going back to my house and get in front of
the TV and hope it will get done today." The Cowboys originally
offered the Titans a late-round 2008 draft pick for Jones, but
according to a source, are willing to give up no better than
fifth-round pick. The teams remain in discussions regarding
another draft pick in 2009. "I just can't wait, and hopefully,
it can get done," Jones said. "I'm anxiously waiting. I've been
working out three days a week, and I've slowed it down a little
bit to give my body a rest, so I can make sure I'm not too wore
out when camp and the season starts."
Broncos sign free agent WR Parker
The Denver Broncos on Tuesday signed former Kansas City Chiefs
wide receiver Samie Parker to a one-year contract. The Broncos
also signed free agent punter Danny Baugher and waived wide
receiver Derrick Hamilton and tight end Chad Upshaw. Parker,
who was an unrestricted free agent, spent his first four NFL
seasons with the Chiefs, who selected him in the fourth round
of the 2004 draft out of Oregon. He has career numbers of 110
catches for 1,529 yards and seven touchdowns. Parker caught
41 passes for 561 yards in 2006 before giving way to first-
round draft pick Dwayne Bowe. Parker had 24 catches for 298
yards and two TDs last year.

McAllister works out deal to return to Saints
Saints running back Deuce McAllister, coming off the second
knee surgery of his career, will remain with New Orleans for
at least one more season. A member of the team with knowledge
of the contract negotiations confirmed the agreement to The
Associated Press on Monday night. The person did not want to
be named because the team hasn't made an official announcement.
McAllister, who was due a $1 million roster bonus by April 15,
worked out the deal that cleared the way for him to remain on
the roster. McAllister is traveling out of the country and was
not available for comment. McAllister suffered his second
season-ending knee injury in three seasons during the second
quarter of the team's home opener last season. He landed
awkwardly after catching a short pass from Drew Brees.
Although he walked off the field on his own, the Saints' all-
time leading rusher missed the rest of the season.
Days later, he underwent surgery on the anterior cruciate
ligament in his left knee. Five games into the 2005 season,
McAllister tore his right ACL during a run at Green Bay. After
reconstructive surgery, he returned to rush for 1,057 yards in
2006, helping the Saints to the NFC South title and starring in
their playoff victory over Philadelphia. McAllister was drafted
by the Saints in the first round in 2001 out of Mississippi.
He's rushed for more than 1,000 yards in four seasons, the
first Saints running back to accomplish that.
Cardinals sign defensive lineman Bryan Robinson
The Arizona Cardinals signed free agent defensive lineman
Bryan Robinson to a two-year contract Monday. Robinson played
with the Cincinnati Bengals last season, starting four games
at defensive end and totaling 28 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Robinson
has also played with the St. Louis Rams, the Chicago Bears and
the Miami Dolphins during his 11-year career.

Lions sign restricted free-agent CB Wilson, P/K Ernster
The Detroit Lions re-signed restricted free-agent cornerback
Stanley Wilson and signed free-agent punter/kicker Paul Ernster
to one-year contracts Friday. Additional contract terms were not
disclosed. Detroit drafted Wilson in the third round, 72nd
overall, out of Stanford in 2005. Through three seasons he has
played in 32 games, including nine starts. He began the 2007
season as the Lions' starting right cornerback but suffered a
season-ending knee injury in Week 11 against Green Bay.
Denver drafted Ernster in the seventh round, 239th overall,
out of Northern Arizona in 2005. He handled the Broncos'
kickoff and punting duties in 2006 and averaged 41.7 yards
per punt. Ernster played in one game each for Denver and
Cleveland in 2007.
Chiefs pick up return specialist Sams, fullback Manderino
The Kansas City Chiefs signed return specialist B.J. Sams to a
one-year contract and fullback Chris Manderino to a two-year
deal. Sams, who played his first three seasons with Baltimore,
missed 15 games last season with torn knee ligaments. Sams has
a career punt-return average of 10.9 yards and has returned two
punts for touchdowns, both in 2004. He has averaged 22.9 yards
on kickoff returns. Manderino entered the NFL as a rookie free
agent with Cincinnati in 2006. He spent the entire 2007 season
on the Bengals' practice squad. Manderino will compete to
replace starting fullback Kris Wilson, a converted tight end
who signed with Philadelphia during the offseason.

Bryant Gumbel to give up duties as play-by-play announcer for
NFL Network
Bryant Gumbel has given up his role as an NFL Network play-by-
play announcer after two seasons. The NFL Network said Friday
it was looking for a new play-by-play announcer to work with
Cris Collinsworth on the network's Thursday and Saturday night
games. "I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to call NFL
Network games the past two years, which was a new experience
for me," Gumbel said in a statement. "But we've agreed that
we'd all be better served going in different directions."
Buzz Nutter, former Unitas era Colts center, dies at 77
Buzz Nutter, the center for John Unitas on NFL championship
teams with the Baltimore Colts in 1958 and 1959, has died.
He was 77. He died Saturday of heart failure at Civista Medical
Center, the Raymond Funeral Home in La Plata said Monday.
Nutter was a 12th-round draft choice of the Washington Redskins
in 1953 but failed to make the team. A year later, the Colts
signed him. After being traded in 1961 to the Pittsburgh
Steelers, he returned to Baltimore in 1965 for his final
season. Nutter lived in La Plata, where a Mass will be held
Saturday.
