Republican national convention-goers could watch the sun
rise while ordering a tequila sunrise if Minnesota lawmakers
OK a bill extending the drinking time.
Up for consideration in the Minnesota House of Representatives
is a bill that would push back the 2 a.m. last call to
4 a.m. for establishments within a 10-mile radius of the
convention site in St. Paul, Minn., a blog of The New York
Times reported. The bill would expand the hours and allow
Sunday alcohol sales -- normally banned -- for 11 days
surrounding the Sept. 1-4 gathering.
"Las Vegas is open all night long and New Orleans is open
till dawn," said Rep. Phyllis Kahn, D-Minneapolis and a
proposal co-sponsor. "I spend a lot of time in cities like
New York and Montreal and they all seem to have later
drinking times."
If a watering hole objects to a later closing, it is free
to close at 2 a.m.
"The 2 a.m. closing hour is actually pretty common," Kahn
said. "But Paris and London barely have closing times
at all."
What are your thought on Minnesota extending the drinking
time at GOP conventions?

Mother of eight boys wants daughter
An English mother of eight boys says her family keeps her
plenty busy, but she would like to have one more child -- a
girl. Wendy Bowen, 41, of Stambridge said her first child,
a girl, died in the womb, and it's been an endless parade
of boys ever since, the Daily Mail reported Monday. Bowen
and her husband Peter have eight boys: Samuel, 19, Benjamin,
17, Joseph, 16, Jake, 13, Peter, 11, Luke, 8, Malachi, 5,
and Nate, 2. "We had a daughter before our eldest son Sam
was born but she had cysts on her lungs and we lost her
when I was eight months pregnant," Bowen said. "We've tried
for girls ever since." "I would love one more just in case
it is a girl. My husband says 'no' but he's been saying
that for a long time -- I just don't listen."

House hit by boulders a third time
The owner of a Honolulu house says the residence has been
hit by a rolling boulder for the third time in as many
years. Jim Delmonte said the back bedroom windows were
broken when the boulder hit Friday and a wall had to be
replaced, KITV in Honolulu reported Monday. He said two
college students who have been renting the property were
inside when the rock hit, but no one was injured. "The
rock isn't that large. (The house) will be fixed and
repaired. The city and county will have to look at it, and
when they are satisfied it is fine, it will be reoccupied,"
Delmonte said. He said the house has been hit by falling
boulders two previous times in the past three years.
Delmonte suggested property owners in the neighborhood
should install a screen to deflect future boulders. "I
think myself and every other person should have some kind
of screen in the back," he said.

'Manatees' not your usual cheerleaders
Members of the Florida Marlins' all-male, all-overweight
dance squad say the run-up to opening day has been marked
by intensive dance training. The between-innings
entertainment team, known as the Manatees, is comprised of
a dozen men who responded to an ad seeking "the biggest
bellies with the biggest jiggle" and "the biggest feet with
the best dance moves," The Miami Herald reported Monday.
The dancers, who are set to make their debut during Monday's
home opener against the New York Mets, have been training
for one month. For the team's senior member, Abraham ''The
Big Rev.'' Thomas, 61, who has six grandkids, the team
meetings leave him sore for days. "After practice, I have
to stay in bed for at least a day. I sleep with oxygen,"
said Thomas. Gabe "McLovin'" Esquijarosa, 25, agreed that
the training was difficult. ''If they make us keep this up,
we won't qualify for next year's squad,'' he said. "'I
secretly think this is a plan by some TV show to get us to
lose weight -- you know, `the Marlins reaching out to the
community' or something like that."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Reader Comments ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What are your thoughts om Bill Clinton's comments?
"Bill Clinton is a great speaker, but I think the Clinton
campaign needs a lot more help then to relax and breathe."
"The votes that count the most have yet to be cast or
counted is really Bill Clintons comments. Being an old
savey Poitical machine in his own right he knows the Numbers
shown in the Obama /Clinton polls are inflated by GOP
campaign tactics.Anyone can register to vote in ealy
primaries and Caucuses even your dead Aunts & Uncles and
say they're / your DEM or GOP just to inflate certain
numbers. It's not a secret that the GOP would rather face
Obama in Nov.2008 than Hillary as they can use the race
and back ground of a racially mixed parenthood against
Obama; it's a K.Rove political dream to start that smut
as soon as possible.The real numbers will surface 12 hours
after the DEM and GOP conventions and the Candidates for
both partys are selected and their running mates named...In
the same lite, it's rumored John McCain will choose a heart
specialist as his Vp to help him get thru the Election !!!"
EM, MI
"Mr. Clinton is right...all the numbers are not in."
