Vick pre-emptively surrenders before sentencing
Michael Vick got a head start on a possible long prison stretch Monday, surrendering three weeks before he was to be sentenced for his involvement in a bloody dogfighting ring. The disgraced Atlanta Falcons quarterback surrendered to U.S. marshals in what his lawyer said was another step in his public repentance. "From the beginning, Mr. Vick has accepted responsibility for his actions, and his self-surrender further demonstrates that acceptance," attorney Billy Martin said in a statement. "Michael wants to again apologize to everyone who has been hurt in this matter, and he thanks all of the people who have offered him and his family prayers and support during this time." Vick pleaded guilty in August to a federal dogfighting conspiracy charge after his three co-defendants pleaded guilty and agreed to cooperate with authorities. He's scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 10 on a federal dogfighting conspiracy charge but worked out a deal "to voluntarily enter custody prior to his sentencing hearing," according to a court document. The federal sentencing guideline range is projected at a year to 18 months, but Vick, who has admitted bankrolling the Bad Newz Kennels, could be sentenced to up to five years in prison.
Broncos RB Henry misses second straight game with knee injury
Broncos running back Travis Henry missed his second straight game Monday night against Tennessee because of a partially torn posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The Titans were without two starters on defense in tackle Albert Haynesworth (right hamstring) and cornerback Nick Harper (concussion). Starting offensive guard Benji Olson was also on the inactive list. Eugene Amano started in his place. Randy Starks replaced Haynesworth and Reynaldo Hill took the place of Harper. Henry, the Broncos' leading rusher, has missed three of the Broncos' past four games. He also sat out Denver's overtime loss to Green Bay on Oct. 29 with sore ribs. Henry is fighting to keep the league from suspending him over the results of a drug test. He had a hearing with the NFL on Friday in Phoenix and could hear back from the league as soon as Tuesday. If he's unsuccessful, Henry faces a yearlong suspension. Selvin Young replaced Henry in the backfield. Young had 109 yards and a touchdown last Sunday against Kansas City. The Broncos didn't activate receiver Javon Walker, who's recovering from surgery on his right knee. Tennessee also waived linebacker LeVar Woods before the game.

Vikings say Peterson's a 'long shot' to play vs. Giants
The Minnesota Vikings will probably be without star running back Adrian Peterson for at least another week. Peterson was sent to work out in a swimming pool Monday for continued rehab on his injured right knee. Coach Brad Childress said he didn't expect Peterson to be ready for the next game against the New York Giants. "It's hard to say right now. He hasn't been on hard land yet," Childress said. Chester Taylor resumed his role as the featured back and rushed for 164 yards on Sunday in a victory over Oakland with Peterson watching from the sideline. Peterson, who still leads the league by a wide margin with 1,081 yards rushing, was hurt in the third quarter of the Nov. 11 game against Green Bay on a tackle by Packers cornerback Al Harris that caused his lateral collateral ligament to tear. The LCL is the least critical of the four knee ligaments. Peterson has spent "literally, six to eight hours a day" in the training room since then, Childress said. He'll have to practice before being cleared for action in a game, so it's likely he won't return until some time in December. Also, fullback Tony Richardson sprained his knee and also hurt his ankle against the Raiders.
