WEBMASTER TIP - Excellent Image Protection Trick
Note: In code examples I add a period after each left arrow
bracket so the code can be viewed in all e-mail programs. If
you copy and paste, be sure to remove the periods or it won't
work.
Question: Is there a way to keep people from stealing my images?
Simon Says: When all a person has to do to steal your images
is to right-click one and choose Save, it makes image theft
as easy as can be. There are several ways to "hide" your images
from image thieves, but absolutely none of them are foolproof.
One way is to encrypt your source code. My cousin sells a great
little utility for encrypting your source code. You'll find it

One of the best tricks, which I also got from my cousin, is to
place the image you want to protect as the background of a
table data cell, then use a transparent gif image as the content
of that same table data cell with the transparent gif image set
to the same size or larger than the image you want to protect.
The gif image covers the real image, but because it's transparent,
the real image shows through in all its glory. When someone
right-clicks to steal your image, they steal the transparent gif
image instead.
When someone saves the transparent gif and tries to view it
later, they'll wonder why there's no image there (there's
nothing to see, it's transparent and usually only 1x1 pixel
in dimension). Most people won't figure that one out!
For extra protection use this trick AND encrypt your source
code. it's unlikely the would-be thieves would ever decrypt
your source code, and they won't be able to right-click to
steal the image. They'll just go looking for easier prey.
Here's an example of the code:

In this example, the image I want to protect is of a duck and it
is named "background.jpg" and placed as a data cell background.
The transparent gif image is named "duck.gif" and placed as the
cell content. So even if someone reads your source code (assuming
you don't encrypt it) they are going to have to do a lot of
thinking to figure this trick out. Like I said, they may well
find it easier to go hunting for ducks in someone else's pond.

COMPUTER TIPS - New Internet Explorer
It wasn't supposed to happen until December, but the newest
version of Internet Explorer is ready for download. This is
version 7, and it features tabbed browsing, a more streamlined
interface to show more of the web page, search multiple search
engines with search feature rather than just the default search
engine, RSS feeds, advanced printing engine automatically
scales the web page width to fit on a standard sheet of paper
(no more missing edges), page zooming, enhanced security and
much, much more.
It's now the most advanced browser out there. If you use
Internet Explorer like the majority of us, you might as well
upgrade to the latest version.
