I was enjoying a break from routine by sitting in a park on
a warm day and watching a guy trying to teach his dog to sit.
He had a large dog, but I'm not sure what kind it was. He'd
give the "sit" command then push down on the dog's rear end,
forcing the dog to sit, then he'd give it an "atta boy" and
a treat. Next, he'd walk a few steps to get the dog up and
he'd repeat the routine.
The guy must have gotten tired of standing though, because
after a few minutes he squatted down in front of the dog
and gave the sit command. While the guy was squatting, the
dog lunged forward putting his paws on the guys shoulders,
knocking the guy backwards onto his rear end.
I thought that was the best "sit" of the day. :)

WEBMASTER TIP - Best CSS Font Sizing
Note: In code examples I add a period after each left arrow
bracket so the code can be viewed in all e-mail programs. If
you copy and paste, be sure to remove the periods or it won't
work.
Question: Coding a font size used to be easy, but now with
CSS fonts are measured in so many different ways (pixels,
ems, etc.) how is one supposed to know which is best?
Simon Says: Using pixels is the most reliable cross-platform
way to code a font size. Every other measurement has a bug or
two in one browser or another.
With CSS you code the font size in a linked style sheet,
embedded in the HEAD section of the page, or inline. Since
showing how to create a linked style sheet requires more
space that I have here, I'll show you how to embed a font
size and how to use an inline style. If you'd like to learn

To code a font size using inline CSS is easy:
<.font style="size: 12px;">
blah, blah, blah
<./font>
That would render any text between the font opening and
closing tags at 12 pixels tall. Change the number to change
the text size. You can use as many of these on a page as you
need, just so you close the first before opening the second.
To code a font size that will be used throughout the page
(unless an inline size is used somewhere) it's better to
embed the font size in the HEAD section of the page:

Just place that between the opening and closing HEAD tags
and that will control the text on the whole page. You can
add many other font attributes to that if you wish:

font {color: #47323F; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px;
font-weight: bold;}

With that one declaration, I've coded the page text to be
rendered in a color about like an eggplant in the Arial
font, with a font size of 12 pixels and in bold. If you
have a place on your page where you don't want that, use
an inline style font tag to override it.

dandy application. It creates an HTML or TEXT file of your
selected drive or a specific directory. That's a feature I
always thought should have been included with Windows, but

be organized in a tree, bulleted listing, an HTML table, or
as a text file.

THE ODDBALL WALL - Two Cents an Acre
On this day in 1867, US Secretary of State William H. Seward
agreed to purchase Alaska from Russia for $7,200,000. Critics
quickly attacked Seward for spending so much money on an
"icebox" -- which soon became known as "Seward's folly."
However, at a cost of two cents per acre and with the
discovery of tons of gold and billions of barrels of oil,
history obviously holds Seward in much higher regard than
did his contemporaries. It may have been the best land buy
in the history of the world!

COMPUTER TIPS - Create a New Toolbar and Hide It
If you have you have Internet Explorer 4.0 or later and Windows
98 or later, you can create a toolbar out of any folder in one
easy step.
1) Click and drag the folder over to any screen edge, let go
and a toolbar appears.
Wish your new toolbar didn't take up so much of your desktop
space? Hide it until you need it!
Just right-click a blank area of the taskbar and choose Auto-
hide on Windows 98. On Windows XP right-click a blank area and
choose Properties. Under Taskbar Appearance choose Autohide
the taskbar.
The taskbar will disappear. When you need it, just move your
mouse pointer to the edge of the screen where you created it
and like magic it will pop back in place.
