Girls’ Hooded Sweatshirts with Drawstring
Recalled for Strangulation Hazard
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Com-
mission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today
announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer
product. Consumers should stop using recalled products
immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Hide & Seek Hooded Sweatshirts
Manufacturer: Quiksilver Inc., of Huntington Beach, Calif.
Hazard: A drawstring is threaded through the hood, posing
a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC
issued guidelines to help prevent children from strangling
or getting entangled on the neck and waist by drawstrings
in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts.
Incidents/Injuries: No incidents or injuries have been
reported.
Description: The recalled hood sweatshirts have a draw-
string through the hood. The sweatshirts are pink, white,
brown, navy or green with a beaded heart logo and
embroidered flowers on the front above the left pocket.
They were sold in girls’ sizes SML to XL. “ROXY GIRL” is
printed on the collar label. The style number 484241
(some with an M, N or NN after the number) is located on
the garment’s hangtag and/or the individual packaging
label.
Sold at: Surf and skate shops, specialty and department
stores, including Macy’s, Nordstrom, Quiksilver and Roxy
retail stores and outlets nationwide from November 2005
through January 2006 for about $40.
Manufactured In: Pakistan
Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the draw-
strings from the sweatshirts to eliminate the hazard.
Consumers can receive a full refund by returning the
sweatshirts to the place of purchase or by mailing the
sweatshirts to: Quiksilver Inc., Attention: Consumer
Replacements/Recalled Merchandise, 5600 Argosy Circle,
Suite 300, Huntington Beach, Calif. 92649. Returns
must include the consumer’s name, address and telephone
number so Quiksilver can reach them.

The Toro Company Expands
Recall of Snowthrowers Posing Fire Hazard
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Com-
mission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today
announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer
product. Consumers should stop using recalled products
immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Toro Snow Commander and CCR Single Stage
Snowthrowers
(NOTE: This recall is an expansion of an earlier recall
announced in March 2003.)
Manufacturer: The Toro Company, of Bloomington, Minn.
Hazard: The plastic fuel tank can crack and leak gasoline,
posing a risk of fire and injury.
Incidents/Injuries: Toro has received 882 additional reports
of fuel tanks leaking. No fires or injuries have been reported.
Description: This recall now involves 2001 and 2002 Toro Snow
Commander and CCR model snowthrowers listed below. The model
and serial numbers are located on the rear of the axle plate
between the wheels.

Remedy: Consumers should contact their local Toro Authorized
Service Dealer to find out if their snowthrower is included
in the recall. If necessary, the dealer will schedule a time
and install a free replacement fuel tank.

GETTING TO SCHOOL SAFELY
Bicycle Helmets: 56 percent of last year’s nearly 535,000
bicycle-related injuries involved children. About 800
people, including about 200 children, died in a recent year
in bicycle-related incidents. Make sure children ALWAYS
wear a bicycle helmet when riding a bike or scooter, and
use other appropriate safety gear such as elbow pads and
knee pads. Look for a label or sticker on the helmet
indicating it meets the CPSC standard. Wearing a helmet
can reduce the risk of head injury by up to 85 percent.
Be aware of local laws pertaining to the use of scooters.
Many cities and communities have specific areas where
scooters are permissible; whereas other communities pro-
hibit entirely the riding of pocket bikes or motorized
scooters.
