Chris Cagle Pushes Taylor Swift From No. 1
Chris CagleIt had to happen. Taylor Swift has finally been
toppled from the summit of Billboard's country albums
chart, laid low by Chris Cagle, who barges into the pent-
house with My Life's Been a Country Song.
Cagle's album, his fourth, sold 36,000 copies this past
week, according to Nielsen SoundScan, compared to Swift's
33,000. It's worth noting, though, that this is the 70th
week out for Swift's self-titled CD. So Cagle's got a bit
of catching up to do to match her stats.
Topping the song chart for the second week is Rodney
Atkins' "Cleaning This Gun (Come On In Boy)." Curb
Records isn't just working Atkins' current album --
they've attached a milking machine to it. This is the
East Tennessee singer's fourth No. 1 from If You're
Going Through Hell, which was released in July of 2006!
The only other new album surfacing this time around is
Dolly Parton's Backwoods Barbie, which slinks in at No.
48. Returning to the list are film soundtrack to Toby
Keith's Broken Bridges (No. 57), Jack Ingram's This Is
It (No. 67) and the multi-artist anthology, Best of
Country (No. 71).
Rascal Flatts claim the highest-charting new song, "Every
Day," which bows in at No. 42. Brad Paisley's "I'm Still
a Guy" tips its hat at No. 48.
Following Cagle's pacesetter in descending order are
Taylor Swift, Garth Brooks' The Ultimate Hits, Robert
Plant and Alison Krauss' Raising Sand and the Eagles'
Long Road Out of Eden.
Similarly arrayed behind Atkins in the Top 5 of the
country song chart are Kenny Chesney and George Strait's
"Shiftwork," Paisley's "Letter to Me," Alan Jackson's
"Small Town Southern Man" and Carrie Underwood's "All-
American Girl."
How about an Underwood-Jackson duet? "All American Girl
Dazzles Small Town Southern Man." It could work.
