Greetings Biography Buff, 

Pete Sampras is a former World No. 1 tennis player, while 
during his 15 year career, won a record 14 Grand Slam singles 
titles in 52 appearances and finished the year as No. 1 for 
six consecutive years, a record for the open era. He also won 
five singles titles at the U.S. Open, also an open era record. 
He is generally considered to be one of the greatest tennis 
players of all time, and in January of 2007, Sampras was 
inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
