Greetings Biography Buff, 

James Byron Dean was a cultural icon, and as with Buddy Holly 
and Marilyn Monroe his death at a young age guaranteed his 
legendary status, since his enduring fame rests mostly due 
to his first movie role in "Rebel Without a Cause." Dean was 
the first person to receive an Academy Award Best Actor 
nomination posthumously and remains the only person to have 
two such nominations.
