* NOW A LOOK AT COUNTRY MUSIC & THE PEOPLE MAKING IT TODAY *
At Last, James Otto Scores No. 1 Song
Raise your glasses -- whether convivial or corrective
-- to James Otto as he scores his first No. 1 Billboard
single with "Just Got Started Lovin' You." It's been a
long haul for the tall singer. He first visited the
country chart in 2002 with "The Ball," which topped out
at a tepid No. 45. (And he didn't do much better with
his successive releases -- until now.)
On the albums side, Tim McGraw seizes the summit with
his Greatest Hits: Limited Edition, a package available
only at Wal-Mart stores. American Idol émigré Phil
Stacey makes an impressive debut at No. 8 with his self-
titled collection from Lyric Street Records.
Martina McBride: Live in Concert arrives at No. 19, but
the other five new albums this week are primarily re-
packaged and reissued music, specifically Classic: Chris
LeDoux (No. 26), the multi-artist CD God Bless the USA
(No. 59), Playlist: The Very Best of Johnny Cash
(No. 65), Playlist: The Very Best of John Denver (No. 68)
and Playlist: The Very Best of Waylon Jennings (No. 70).
Re-entering the album chart at No. 75 is Justin Townes
Earle's The Good Life.
First-timers on the song chart are Adam Gregory's "Crazy
Days" (No. 53) and Kid Rock's "All Summer Long" (No. 59).
Dolly Parton's "Jesus & Gravity" returns to the list at
No. 57.
Immediately following McGraw's CD in the Top 5 are Taylor
Swift, George Strait's Troubadour, Otto's Sunset Man and
Lady Antebellum's self-titled debut.
Just behind Otto in the Top 5 song rankings are Strait's
"I Saw God Today," Swift's "Picture to Burn," Trace
Adkins' "You're Gonna Miss This" and Brad Paisley's "I'm
Still a Guy."
